The NBA Trade Deadline, Starring: Brad Miller, Skip To My Lou, and Big Musky himself.
I will admit, my interest in the NBA is passing at best most of the time. The Chicago Bulls kinda suck, and I actually find myself rooting for individual players more than my own favorite team. LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, Derrick Rose (who is the only reason the Bulls are worth watcing) and Kevin Durant come to mind (among others), but as a sports fan I can't resist a good trade deadline. I especially can't resist one where my favorite team made a couple moves that actually make sense to me. So here is my take on some of the more notable trades.
1. The Bulls get Brad Miller and John Salmons; The Kings get Andres Nocioni and Drew Gooden. I like this move because it actually gives the Bulls someone who can score in the paint. Everyone they have who plays the 4 or 5 for the Bulls is super-athletic with a low basketball IQ and disturbing lack of post moves or a jumper (Lookin at you Jo Noah and Ty Thomas). Brad Miller gives them a solid (but old) option at the 5, and Salmons is a solid scoring option as well.
Also, they get rid of Nocioni's terrible contract, and free up spaces in a crowded rotation of guards.
I'm also going to applaud the Bulls for dumping Larry Hughes on the Knicks for the NY pu-pu platter. None of the players that they got back will probably contribute but they needed to dump Hughes. He wasn't happy in Chicago, and he was taking minutes away from more talented players who were actually producing.
2. Magic get Rafer Alston and really only give up Brian Cook. I really havent looked at the particulars of this, but if it goes through it puts the Magic right back on the map in the East playoff picture. Dwight Howard has someone else to get him the ball now after Jameer Nelson went down for the season. This is analgous to last year's Pau Gasol heist last year. Everyone thought the Lakers were dead after Andrew Bynum went down, but Pau Came in and saved the day. Am I saying that the artist formerly known as "Skip To My Lou" will carry the magic to the finals? No, probably not. The Celtics and the Cavs are too good, but this could very well put them in the Conference Finals, which is better than I thought they would've done yesterday.
3. T'Wolves get Shelden "Big Musky" Williams and Bobby Brown; Kings get Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth. This trade will have no effect on the NBA, but it does give me an opportunity to make fun of Shelden Williams's giant god damn head.

Lay off the Nerve Tonic Shelden! Gigantism is a bitch, just ask Ken Griffey Jr. there....
